Asama Summit Observation Deck

Unobstructed view from the most advanced point

The magnificent view of Ise Bay, the whole of Ise-Shima, and on a clear day, even Mt. Fuji on a clear day. The magnificent view of Ise Bay is especially impressive.

In addition, a promenade where you can enjoy seasonal flowers and trees, a footbath where you can relax and enjoy the view, and a spacious 850 square meter lawn square make this a truly “panoramic square.

Mt. Asama has several peaks in addition to the north peak at 555 meters above sea level and the south peak (Kyogamine) at about 540 meters above sea level.

It is located in the Ise-Shima National Park and has been selected as one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan. It is the highest peak on the Shima Peninsula, and the area near the summit is well known as a place to view the first sunrise of the year.

Mt. Asama Observatory is located on the east side of the 506-meter-high southern peak, and offers a spectacular view of the Toba City side to the northeast. In addition, the view extends to the Atsumi Peninsula on the other side of Ise Bay, including Toba City’s outlying islands of Kamijima and Toshijima. Weather conditions permitting, you can even see the Southern Alps and Mt.

There is also a restaurant called Asama Teahouse at the observatory. There is also a retro sky post box that is currently the talk of the town. As the highest post box in Iseshima, it is quietly creating a boom among people who want to send letters to their loved ones.

While soaking in the observation footbath, you can enjoy a relaxing view of the city of Toba, the magnificent Ise Bay, the islands, and even the Atsumi Peninsula.

A short stroll along the Sanpodo to Kankichi-dai at the tip of the Sanjo Koen is also recommended. Seasonal flowers and trees are in full bloom, offering magnificent views of the Ise Plain and Ise Bay.

There is also Nakoyama Shrine, a hammock plaza, Kankichi-dai (paraglider takeoff site), and a monument to Kokichi Mikimoto, the founder of the Kagoritatejo.

Kongoshoji Temple

Near the summit of the mountain is Kongoshoji Temple, a famous temple that guards the demon’s gate of the Ise Jingu Shrine, and the Okuno-in Temple, which attracts many worshippers. Mt. Asama is a sacred mountain representing Ise-Shima. It is also visited by many worshippers of mountain worship.

Ise-Shima Skyline

This is a beautiful mountain road that crosses Mount Asama and connects the area near the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu with Toba. This toll road was completed in 1964. It is 16.3 kilometers long.

The road was designed using a crossoid curve and overlooks the rias coast, including Toba Bay.

A series of sharp curves are made at the beginning of the ascent of Ise-Toba, and the rate of bending of the curves increases near the summit of the mountain.

The route climbs from a few meters above sea level all the way up to 500 meters above sea level and back down again, and the absence of high mountains in the surrounding area makes it possible to enjoy a fine view.

In particular, from the Asama Summit Observatory to the Toba side, you can enjoy an exhilarating drive while viewing the islands in Ise Bay.

There are also many places of interest along the road, and you can enjoy the seasonal blooming of flowers.

Cherry blossoms and azaleas can be seen in spring, hydrangeas and sasa lilies in summer, morning glory gentians in fall, and mountain tea flowers and camellias in winter. In particular, the asamari gentian found on Mt. Asama is characterized by its flowers, which are smaller than normal gentians.
